Birdhouse Showcase PA is one of the most charming spring traditions in Bucks County, transforming Peddler's Village into an open-air celebration of nature. From late April through early June, the Village pathways are lined with imaginative birdhouse designs created by members of the public and displayed as part of the annual Best of the Nest competition.
What makes this showcase especially appealing for couples is the way it blends artistry with a relaxed, walkable setting. As you stroll the brick pathways between boutiques and gardens, you will encounter everything from rustic woodland cottages to sleek architectural builds inspired by modern design. Some resemble miniature farmhouses with tiny shutters and pitched roofs. Others feel playful and unexpected, using reclaimed wood, metal accents, or whimsical shapes that spark conversation.
The event is presented in partnership with AIA Bucks County and the Honey Hollow Nature Center, adding depth beyond visual appeal. While the birdhouses compete for prizes, they are also rooted in thoughtful design principles that consider habitat and function. This connection to nature gives the experience a meaningful layer that feels perfectly suited to spring.
April and May are ideal months to visit. Flowering trees frame the installations, and colorful planters soften every corner of the Village. Outdoor seating areas invite you to pause for coffee, share a pastry, or linger over lunch at one of the onsite restaurants.
For couples, the Birdhouse Showcase PA can turn it into a playful ritual by choosing your favorite design and explaining why. If your timing aligns with the seasonal Bird Talk presentation, you can also learn about bird behavior and the basics of birdhouse construction. Even if you skip the talk, the showcase itself subtly educates through design. Many entries balance creativity with real world functionality, demonstrating how art and ecology intersect.
After an afternoon at Peddler’s Village, return to The Inn at Bowman’s Hill for a quieter evening. The contrast between the lively Village setting and the peaceful grounds of the inn creates a lovely rhythm to the day. A glass of wine on the terrace or a soak in a deep tub feels even more restorative after time spent outdoors.
